さがす【捜す･探す】

1 【捜す】 〔なくした物を〕 search 《for…》; look for…; hunt 《for…》; 〔犯人などを〕 hunt down; trace; locate.

●家の中を捜す search a house 《for sth》

・ひき出しの中を捜す rummage (in) a drawer 《for sth》

・落としたネジを捜す look for a screw one has dropped

・行方不明の家族を捜す search for a missing family.

●家中くまなく捜したが見当たらなかった. I searched all over the house, but I could not find it.

・心当たりをすべて捜したが見つからなかった. I looked everywhere I thought it might be but it didn't turn up.

・落とした財布を捜しに行った. He went to look for the purse he lost on the way.

・もっとよく捜せよ. Search harder!

・よく捜したか? Did you look well?

・七度(_ななたび)捜して人を疑え. You must be on sure ground before you suspect a person.
